1 Dag Hammarskjold Plaza

Laufs ED was brought on at the onset of the project for 1 Dag’s lobby to assist and optimize design. The project was a feature wall of 30 ft span twisted plates with no intermediate supports. The challenge was to keep the plates slender and stable so they wouldn’t dance about. The engineered system relies on pretensioning the steel fins to keep them taut and plumb when installed. The fin’s connection to the base and transfer beams take the required amount of pre-tensioning to maintain the architect’s design intent for slender, free-floating plates.
